The OneContent Strategy

The OneContent Strategy is a unified content strategy. It is the way you work in order to manage the tremendous amounts of content of your organization consistently. It integrates your processes from content creation to content management and delivery. Wherever it appears, the same content is used. Consistent message, brand, and accuracy is provided to both external and internal customers. Where duplication occurs, the same content is used and organizations no longer have to worry about contradicting themselves with differing information.

Here again the three components of the OneContent Strategy:
  • Unified Processes
  • Reusable Content
  • OneContent - Enterprise Content Management System

Unifying your processes

Content is created by people. A unified, collaborative authoring process ensures that authors work together across department boundaries and create, manage and deliver content consistently.

The goal is to break down the content silos and to realize the following benefits:

  • faster time to market
  • better use of resources
  • reduced cost
  • improved quality and usability of content
  • increased opportunity to innovate
  • improved workplace satisfaction
  • increased customer satisfaction
OneContent supports unified processes with collaborative authoring as described in the section Managing the Content Life Cycle.

Reusing content with information-objects

The benefit of reuse lies in writing content once and the use it many times. For reuse information-objects are written as elements, not documents. The information objects can be inserted into many documents that meet specific information needs. A product description, for example, could be used on the Web, in a brochure, in product support documentation or even on a package.

OneContent lets you reuse content by using information-objects or info-objects. Authors can select info-objects when creating a document (opportunistic reuse). In addition the system admin can define elements like headers, footers and cover pages for each doc-type for different outputs (systematic reuse). In addition to info-objects OneContent offers variables that can either be inserted into text directly or that can be inserted into info-objects.

OneContent is a flexible and open platform. Currently not existing forms of reuse such as derivative or nested reuse can be implemented on a project basis.
